The release of Pure White Doves has a powerful symbolic meaning for many special occasions. We at Dove Events Gladstone strive our hardest to ensure your event is very special and you come away fully satisfied with the service and individuality our Snow White Doves provide. They have been worshipped as fertility goddesses and revered as symbols of peace.
Dove Events Gladstone are local people providing Pure White Rock Doves (Columbia Livia) for safe release around Gladstone.
Owner operator Wayne learnt a lot about keeping and flying these fascinating birds from his own experiences over the past 50 years of keeping aviary birds.
Dove Events Gladstone is a new family run business employing locals committed to the local region and uses local grains, supplements, personnel and allied services.
All the birds are thoroughly trained before releasing and are capable of flying long distances home, but for the comfort and safety of the birds, we do have boundaries.
Our birds live on the south west side of Gladstone with the owner operator to ensure the quality of the birds and consistency with training and homing.
Every attempt is made to keep the flying distance under 50 km saving the birds stress and having to fly so far home. We do have one bird who has flown from Moree in NSW to Gin Gin in Qld in a single day but this is very much the exception and she is an exceptional bird.
We at Dove Events Gladstone are committed to the welfare of our birds and are gold members of the International Dove Society. We are also equally committed to providing the highest level of service with individuality and care for your special event.
Our doves are the same amazing kind of bird that played a vital part in both World War One and World War Two as they proved to be an extremely reliable way of sending messages. Such was the importance doves/pigeons that over 100,000 were used in the wars with an astonishing success rate of saving lives by getting through to their destination with their message even under heavy fire and attack from enemy gunfire and specially trained enemy peregrine falcons.
Domesticated since the dawn of man, they have been crucial to wartime communications for every major historical superpower from ancient Egypt to the United States.
In most cultures throughout the world the dove stands for love and peace. The dove has a very special place in the Bible. In the story of Noah, also a symbol of peace: in the new Testament, the biblical account states that the Spirit descended on Jesus Christ like a dove after he was baptized.
In a wedding the doves bless the couple with their message of love, peace and good fortune.
In a funeral or memorial the doves symbolise the spirit going home and the angels.
In a birthday celebration the doves symbolize mystery and magic.
One delivered the results of the first Olympics in 776B.C. and another brought the news of Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo more than 2,500 years later. The Olympic Games were banned for 1,500 years until they were restarted in the modern era in its birthplace, Athens, in 1896. At the 1920 Olympic Games held in Antwerp, Belgium, they released hundreds of white homing pigeons, a tradition that was integrated into the opening ceremonies. Today pigeons continue to be relied upon to send secret messages in times of war when conventional communication fails. Owners and breeders are diverse and include the Queen of England's Royal Loft Manager to Mike Tyson America's most famous pigeon lover.
Walt Disney also popularised homing pigeons in his movies such as Snow White (1955) and The Pigeon that Worked a Miracle (1958) based on the book Pigeon Fly Home.
Walt Disney also coordinated the release of 2,000 white homing pigeons in the 1960 Winter Olympic Games held in Squaw Valley, California, a trend that continues to this day, weather permitting.
Pigeons/doves are athletes of the highest order, while racehorses receive all the glory, with their 60kph sprints around a 1600 metre racetrack, homing pigeons - a mere pound of flesh and feathers - routinely fly over 800km in a single day at speeds exceeding 100kph, finding their way home from place they have never been to before without stopping for food or water.
One of the earliest known mother - goddesses was the Sumerian, and later Babylonian, goddess Ishtar, "Queen of Heaven and Earth and of the Evening Star".She is often depicted either holding a pigeon or as the winged bird herself. The Phoenician goddess of love and fertility, Astarte, was also symbolically represented as a pigeon, as were the Greek goddess Aphrodite and the Roman goddess Venus.
In Sumerian 'Epic of Gilgamesh' , which predates the Hebrew Bible by hundreds of years, there is also a great flood in which the rock dove plays the role of messenger. The rock dove's message of subsiding waters and thus new beginnings and new hope lent to its role as the bird of peace and love, cherished for its innocent and gentle nature.
The goddesses Atargatis, Ishtar, Inanna, Astarte and Aphrodite are all depicted with doves. The legendary Queen Semiramis was raised by doves, connecting her to the goddesses.
In the Epic of Gilgamesh the dove was released to search for the end of the deluge.
Further according to the biblical story (Genesis 8:11) a dove was released by Noah after the flood in order to find land; it came back carrying a freshly plucked olive leaf a sign of life after the Flood of God's bringing Noah, his family and animals to land.
The use of a dove and olive branch as a symbol of peace originated with the early Christians, who portrayed the act of baptism accompanied by a dove holding an olive branch in its beak and also used the image on their sepulchres.
In Christian Iconography, a dove also symbolises the Holy Spirit, in reference to Mathew 3:16 and Luke 3:22 where the Holy Spirit is compared to a dove at the Baptism of Jesus.
The early Christians in Rome incorporated into their funerary art the image of a dove carrying an olive branch, often accompanied with the word peace.
In the earliest Christian art, the dove represented the peace of the soul rather than civil peace, but from the third century it began to appear in depictions of conflict, in the Old Testament, such as Noah and the Ark, and in the Apocrypha, such as Daniel and the lions, the three young men in the furnace, and Susannah and the Elders.
The release of Pure White Doves has a powerful symbolic meaning for many special occasions through the entire "The Circle of Life". Naming ceremonies, birthday parties, school graduations, weddings, business openings and closures and funerals to name a few.
At some time in their life almost everyone has to say goodbye to a loved one. Do They Come Back To The Cage?
After their release the doves usually circle above a couple of times mainly to gain their bearings and wish you well, they then fly off safely to their home.
Do You Deliver The Doves? It's a Church Wedding.
Yes, we offer a highly professional service and once we have discussed the various ways our doves can make your day even more special, the cages, trimmings, leg bands and birds are brought to your wedding venue. The doves wait outside the church in an elegant style cage (we have a number to choose from) while your service takes place inside. After the service, when the bridal party and guests make their way outside there is a beautiful reading exclusive to Dove Events Gladstone(you have a choice of six) and the playing of 'On the wings of a snow white dove' if requested.
The Bride and Groom release their doves in co - ordination with the photographer videographer who can capture the moment of this very symbolic gesture, which heralds the beginning of your new life together. Afterwards, the cage is discreetly taken away.
How Does It's Work It's A Garden Wedding?
The doves compliment your garden setting as they watch and listen while you make your marriage vows. the final part of your ceremony can include one of our beautiful wedding poems, The dove/s are then released in co-ordination with your photographer/videographer. The cage is then discreetly removed.
How Long Does the Dove Release last?
Our doves do not linger. When the doves are released they fly high around in the sky as they search for their way home. This may take up to five minutes. We do not want the doves to linger or mingle with the crowd for their safety - once they find their bearings they head straight home.
What Happens If It Rains?
Our doves quite like a light shower, however in the interest of their safety we do reserve the right to cancel in the event of severe weather as per our Dove Release Policy. Helium dove balloons are another attractive alternative service that we provide so as to avoid disappointment of not releasing doves on your special occasion.
Do the Doves Have Names?
We pay special attention to the needs of each and every dove even down to giving them individual names. We will advise you on the day the names of which doves who will be carrying out the beautiful duties at your special event.
Do the Doves Need Food and Water Before They Are Released?
The doves have specific feeding times and will not require feeding or additional water before flying off to their home.
How Do I know that the Birds will be safe and the company reputable?
Be sure they are members of the International Dove Society because all members agree to adhere to a code of ethics.
Should I release the doves without the assistance of a professional handler?
No. IWDS members do not allow self-releases because of the high potential for injury to the birds and the bad press and serious harm that it would do to the business. Our professional dove handlers know their birds and will do everything to ensure that the doves are not harmed and your event is dignified.
Can I release white ring neck doves, white squab or untraiendyoung white homers?
No. You should not release these birds for their safety and the dignity of your event.
The smaller white ring neck doves and white squab have no homing instinct and untrained young white homers won't have a home to return. It is best if they have at least one breeding season under them and that they are trained similar to athletes to build up their strength and stamina as well as their bearings.
How much does a dove release cost?
You should expect to pay $100 to $500 for a release from a reputable company. There are many expenses from the initial purchase of the birds, to the loft(our doves live in a 60metre by 4metre loft which cost $25k), upkeep such as food and medicines and vaccines, training, replacement, baskets, release cages, display advertising, stationery - and the list goes on. You want to hire a professional company for quality, not someone who is doing it for a hobby.
Will they make a mess at the ceremony?
It cannot be guaranteed, but birds usually do not defecate when flying so the chances are slim. Helium doves are environmentally friendly and certainly leave no mess, they decompose into the soil.
How Many Doves Should Be Released?
If you are not sure how many doves to release here are a couple of ideas:
A single dove to represent the essence of your loved one.
The Holy Trinity + A Spirit Dove
Three doves can be released to represent the father, son and holy spirit, then a single dove is released to represent the loved one enjoining with the Holy Trinity in Heaven.
Seven Doves = Spiritual Perfection
The number seven is a significant number in the bible. Seven white doves can represent seven angels, white flying doves, through the sky. Alternatively each member of the bridal party or best man and matron of honour can have a dove each released as well as the bride and groom.
Twelve is also important number in the bible. 12 doves can be released to represent the 12 blessings (hope, joy, wonder, praise, peace, benevolence, comfort, faith, perseverance, strength, love and grace)
A Dove for Every Decade of Marriage
When renewing vows you can symbolically release a dove for each and every decade or year of marriage or celebrate a birthday in a similar way.
Have Helium Doves Been Used Internationally?
The idea as far as we can ascertain originated in England and has been used for quite some time, recently the helium doves have made their way into mainstream American Events.
They were used at the 1998 Nagano Olympic Games. Following a huge earthquake in Japan at Kobe, on 17th January 1995 a group of kindergarten children used the helium doves to pass on their message encouragement writing letters of encouragement and support onto the helium doves. One and one half hours later their were telephone calls to the kindergarten children saying their letters of support and encouragement had been received in Kobe.
How Far Can Helium Balloons Travel?
Varying weather conditions can affect the flight path of a helium dove dramatically, typically they will travel anywhere from 500km to over 2,000km. The longest known journey that we are aware of was from Japan to Los Angeles in USA.
Doves have long been a symbol of peace, love and hope and they have been very popular for almost any special occasion for a very long time and will continue to bring that special meaning to many events, including your event if you choose, that no other flower, musical band, theatrics or speech can ever provide. they have their own special place in the heart and mind that people will remember from your special day.
Are all your doves pure white?
90% of our doves are pure white but a couple do have some slight speckle colour - you can specify if you do not want to include these doves in your event. We are attempting to breed the colour speckle completely out but sometimes you get a throw back in genes. The cock bird passes on the colour of the dove and the hen passes on all other attributes.
White doves represent spirituality in its deepest sense. Traditional funeral stories told that doves carried the souls of deceased people to heaven.
Doves are often portrayed on graves to represent the eternal peace of someone who has departed this life.
Whatever you believe and whatever traditions you follow when mourning the loss of a loved one, it is always comforting to feel that they have gone somewhere peaceful and secure.
When the white doves fly away at the end of a service, people tell me that it feels like they are saying their final goodbye to that person. It often brings up emotions and helps to express grief, which is very therapeutic.
"I Am Still With You"
If it seems that I am far away on this empty and solemn day,
just open your heart and know
it’s true that I am still right here with you
If during the day things are going wrong,
please don't feel sad and alone.
Just open your heart and know
it's true, that I am still right here with you.
When nighttime falls and the day is done.
If you are feeling alone and sleep won't come,
Just open your heart and know it's true,
that I am still right here with you.
Close your eyes and feel the warm embrace.
Sleep peacefully in the wings of grace.
If sadness finds you in the morning light,
if you feel alone, don't give up trying!
Hold this feather close and know it’s true,
that I am always here with you.
-Author: Julie Johnson, Wings of Grace
"The Final Flight"
Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free,
I’m following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call,
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work, or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way,
I’ve found peace at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void,
then fill it with a remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I’ve savored much,
Good friends, good times a loved one’s touch,
Perhaps my time seems all too brief.
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts to share with me
God wanted me now, He set me free.
"Carry Me Home"
My loved ones do not cry
And worry of me
For like the dove
I have been set free.
God has called me
To my mansion on high
Just there among the clouds
In the deep blue sky.
I have no pain
No suffering to do
I have been called home
And I know you will too.
So beat hard and fast
Little wings off white
And carry me home
Before the night.
- Author: Lee Gilley
On the wings of this white dove
I’ll set your spirit free.
Up into the big deep sky,
To heaven, where you’ll be.
I know God has a plan for us,
He wants us by his side.
But it is hard for us to understand
When we are left behind.
Little dove, help lift our hearts
As we watch you go,
God is there if we just ask,
Because He loves us so!
Lyrics Marty Robbins
On the Wings of a Snow White Dove
On the wings of a snow - white dove God sends His pure sweet love
A sign from above
On the wings of a dove
When troubles surround us
When evils come
The body grows weak
The spirit grows numb
When these things beset us
He doesn't forget us
He sends down his love
On the wings of a dove
When Noah had drifted
On the flood many days
He searched for land in various ways
Troubles he had some
But wasn't forgotten
He sent him His love
On the wings of a dove
For many centuries, the White Dove has been an emblem of Peace, Love and New Beginnings. As a symbolic gesture, to seal their marriage vows, (bride and groom) are now going to release these two pure white birds. The Doves will fly upwards and circle above us a few times, then fly home together, as a pair. This symbolizes our newly-wed couple setting off on their journey in life together, in harmony. (bride and groom), we wish for you, that your lifetogether will be long, rich and rewarding. May your marriage carry with it all the wonderful qualities that the White Dove represents.
Grow in Love
As you begin your new journey as husband and wife, let this pair of doves symbolize the love and devotion that will grow through your years together. The memory of these two of nature's creatures, who bond together for life, will serve as inspiration as you both go forth -- traveling a path started by two, and combining as one with a never ending love for one another.
The Legend of the Doves One the Lord of Heaven chose two doves, both young and fair and told them of a very special journey they would share. "Go now upon the earth and seek two hearts where you may dwell, and there I shall surely come and make my home with you as well. We'll join the two and make them one. A Husband and a Wife, my spirit will endow their love with everlasting life." Today the Doves still bring the sacred promise from above, to those whose hearts are open to the miracle of love. May your marriage carry with it all the wonderful qualities of the Holy Spirit that the White Dove represents.
